I spend a lot of time on the computer.
I work in web design and development, from home, so I am pretty much plugged in ALL THE TIME. When you work from home, you are never just done with work that day. No, you are constantly thinking about it, and any time to yourself is spent checking your email and planning for your next work day.
I needed to get away.
So I started crafting….again.
A few years ago, I made cards. I made cards so much, that I became a Stampin’ Up consultant and maxed out a credit card. That last part is kind of what scared me away from crafting. But, I liked it! I liked doing something creative away from the computer screen. I liked working with my hands. I liked having a different obsession to think about on my off time.
So, 3 years after maxing out that credit card, and 6 months after paying it off – I began a new craft (vowing not to put us in debt because of it, I buy all my supplies with cash!). Needle felting.
About 15 years ago, I saw someone needlefelting on one of those craft shows my mom watched, and was intrigued. I never did anything about it, because I was in art school at the time and didn’t have the time, but it has always been in the back of my mind. Then, a few weeks ago, I came across this video:
And I was HOOKED.
Not only could I craft? But I could make fun things for my babies.
I ordered supplies and got going.
First, I made Derpy. Derpy the Dolphin:
Then, I made an owl:
Then, at Maddie’s request, I made a lion:
… who sadly met his demise at the jaws of my Border Collie Molly – I think dogs smell the sheep/alpaca.
But now, my friends, my geek is combining with this new hobby:
…and a possible new blog is born… HA!
I’m having fun stabbing things into existence, though, and plan on making the kids a ton of felt food, a fairy doll, and perhaps a pair of wet felted slippers in the future.
