The Lost finale was very Six Feet Under, now wasn’t it?
Beautiful. Just. Beautiful.
There are a ton of theories flying around – but here is what My husband and I came up with: They didn’t die on the island. Everything that happened on the Island, happened!
But, since the time on the island was the most important time like Christian said…they subconsciously built this “in between” (a.k.a the sideways) where they would all meet again when they died. They could then “move on” to heaven or whatever – all the religions were represented in the church so that they didn’t leave anyone out – together.
They all didn’t die at the same time. That’s why Kate said she “missed” Jack “so much”. That timeline went on. Kate, Sawyer, Lapidus, Miles, Claire and Aaron probably all lived a very long and happy life. Hurley and Ben stayed on the island to protect it and then when it was their time they woke up in the “in between”. It could have been thousands of years. In the sideways, there is no “now”.
I thought it was amazing. And it is a series finale, much like Six Feet Under, that will always always always stick with me.
Thank You LOST.
EDIT: Some more thoughts:
It was confirmed that everything on the island happened because Ben apologized to Locke for killing him.
Ben was sitting outside of the church waiting for Alex. =) (he had more to do?)
Hurley needed a #2 – because there always has to be two people protecting the island, one good and one bad, to keep the balance. When Jacob found Richard (his #2) Richard just killed someone.
Jacob and the man in black’s crazy mom went crazy because she had no #2.
The island does have crazy time traveling powers. Just like Hurley and Miles could talk to dead people, and Walt could make things die with his mind – some things are just hard to explain.
